German Supermodel Claudia Schiffer

Claudia Schiffer (born August 25, 1970) is a German supermodel and actress, who reached the height of her popularity during the 1990s. Schiffer is one of the world's most successful supermodels, appearing on over 500 magazine covers and is thought to be one of the wealthiest German women of her time, with Forbes estimating Schiffer to be worth £38 million in 2002.

After she was spotted as a potential model in a disco at the age of just seventeen, she completed her education by her mother's wishes and then began to work as a model. She flew out to Paris for a trial photo shoot and soon after she appeared in the cover of French ELLE after being well received in Paris. After several other magazine appearances she quickly achieved supermodel status when she was selected by Karl Lagerfeld to become the new face of Chanel. Schiffer continued to become a world-famous supermodel, becoming instantly recognizable with her blue eyes, blond hair and tall figure.

In the early 1990s she starred in highly publicised Guess? jeans adverts in North America which created essential publicity for Schiffer. Soon after appearing in the campaigns, her name was launched worldwide, appearing on five magazine covers in the United States and seven covers around Europe. Her modelling career continued to grow and she was contracted to model for Revlon. She also became deeply involved in modelling for several catalogues and modelled on high profile catwalk shows. Schiffer has done catwalk modelling for Versace, Jil Sander, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Valentino. Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, the New York Times and People all saw Schiffer as the first model to make their covers. She has also appeared many times on covers of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Time.

Schiffer has also been the face of Mango, a chain of Spanish clothes stores and Accessorize, where she had her ears pierced especially for her Autumn/Winter 2006 Accessorize advertising campaign in 2006. Schiffer still holds a contract with L'Oreal and Ebel watches, and her billboard picture for Kenar has also hung over millions of tourists at Time Square. Since 1990, she has created a swimsuit calendar each year which she stars in and designs herself.

Her career continued to develop when she secured contracts with Pepsi appearing in advertisements promoting the brand, and has also danced with a cartoon version of Mickey Mouse in advertisements promoting Fanta for an estimated $2 million. She appeared nude in a 1998 Citroën advertisement, securing her a reputed £3 million. However from behind the car only her feet and shoulders upward could be seen and she did not know how to drive at the time. Karl Lagerfeld recently filmed her for a Dom Perignon campaign, some ten years after her first appearances in Chanel adverts.

Canadian Supermodel Linda Evangelista

Along with Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, Linda is regarded as one of the few, true supermodels that changed the face of fashion in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The triumvirate of model friends that comprises Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington was affectionately dubbed "The Trinity" and is commonly credited as responsible for sparking supermodel mania. Evangelista uttered the quote, "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day" (often misquoted as: "We don't get out of bed for less than..." or "I don't get out of bed for less than...") Spoken in Vogue (1990) to Jonathan Van Meyer, talking about money and how she and a few other models were calling the shots and changing the game.

In the late 1980s, she cut all her hair off to brandish a little-boy style haircut and was promptly cancelled from all the important runway shows that season. This was the first of her many, many dramatic hairstyle changes. Within months, she appeared on magazine covers everywhere and many women emulated the hairstyle.

Ukrainian Supermodel Snejana Onopka

Snejana Onopka (born December 15, 1986) is a Ukrainian supermodel known for her deep-set eyes and pin-thin body. Onopka moved to the Ukraine capital, Kiev, at the age of fifteen. While there, she was spotted by a foreign scout and thus began her career as a model. She soon caught the eye of Steven Meisel and shot the campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Prada. He also photographed her for two covers of Italian Vogue, which helped launch her career. Onopka has also been on the cover of i-D and Numéro, making a total of 11 covers, and counting, over her short span as a top model. On the runway, she is commonly seen at top shows including Chanel, Gucci, Christian Lacroix, Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga.

During the New York's Fall/Winter 2007 shows she was noticeably absent, though at the start of the Milan shows just weeks later, she was back in full force walking for shows including Burberry, Jil Sander, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. It was later found out that she was shooting the Shiseido Spring/Summer 2007 campaign.

Although the low body weight of runway models is currently a matter of great controversy, Onopka serves as an extremely thin example. She is one of the thinnest models walking the runways today, and with a Body Mass Index of only 14.6 (anything under 18.5 is considered underweight), she faces rejection from some cities' Fashion Week shows, such as Madrid, which has a minimum BMI requirement.

In the beginning of 2007 a Russian tabloid came out with nude photos claiming that they were of Snejana. The scandal was supposedly the reason why Snejana took a break from New York fashion week and others led to believe it was because of her weight. Luckily she made it to Milan and Paris fashion week. Snejana has had a lot of focus around her lately because of her size in photographs, taken when she was 17 at a record 45kg, and her quoting that she is naturally thin. The Russian tabloid photos are still not confirmed by Onopka, it appears to be her before she started modeling, which is most likely the underage seventeen, taking pictures with a close friend. Whether it is or not is still a matter of great controversy among fans and critics alike. Some argue it can not be her because the eyes seem to be too far apart and are not shaped the same, the lips and nose shaped slightly differently, eye brows arched in very different ways, and visible and non visible cheekbones.

Brazilian Supermodel Caroline Trentini

Caroline Aparecida Trentini (born July 6, 1987) is a Brazilian supermodel. She was born in Panambi, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. At about age 13, Trentini was discovered walking down a street in her hometown by an agent, the same one who scouted supermodel Gisele Bündchen, and soon afterward she moved to São Paulo, a common destination for young Brazilian models. Her modeling career immediately took off, and after a year, Trentini moved again, this time to New York City. Trentini's breakthrough came when designer Marc Jacobs cast her in his Marc by Marc Jacobs ad campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller.

In 2004 she was photographed topless by Steven Klein in a freezer, surrounded by meat, for a Vogue editorial. Although the shoot turned out all right, Trentini converted to a vegetarian.

Trentini's trendy baby-cheeked elfish looks and trademark freckles have helped her snag coveted runway spots at shows such as Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Versace, Victoria's Secret, Chanel, Christian Dior, L.A.M.B., Baby Phat, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Dolce & Gabbana. She has appeared on the covers of magazines ELLE, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue, among others.

She now lives with fellow Brazilian models Cintia Dicker and Bruna Erhardt in New York City. Of NYC she has said, "I have traveled the world and this is the place I like to be the most." She has said that Kate Moss and Caroline Ribeiro are her favorite fashion icons and that she would like to work with legendary photographer Irving Penn. Currently, she is the face of Gucci Cruise, Oscar De La Renta and Dolce & Gabbana Animelier.

In the May 2007 issue of American Vogue she was featured on the cover with fellow models: Doutzen Kroes, Jessica Stam, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Agyness Deyn, Coco Rocha, Hilary Rhoda, Chanel Iman, and Lily Donaldson as the new crop of supermodels.
